A Day Out in London on a Budget

When I was a teenager I was hugely interested in Art. More than anything in the world I wanted to move to London and study there, with access to all those incredible museums and galleries. I went off happily thinking a Nottingham lass like me (totally dependent on her mum) would be fine in the big smoke. I didn’t bank on boarding school girls with huge disposable incomes being my peers at my art college. I hadn’t reckoned not being able to afford to keep up socially or being asked to say certain phrases repeatedly because and I quote ‘my accent was so quaint!’

I left sharpish, zipped over to Camp America then to Israel where I stayed on a kibbutz. I grew up a bit and reembarked on my university career in down to earth, leftie Essex University Here we protested rents and the lecturers disappeared overnight on trips to Tibet to ‘find themselves’…much more ‘up my street’.

My love affair with London and its gorgeous vibrant, art word has never died. I love the bustle of Camden market, the entertainers at Covent Garden an d the dusty old bookshops too. But I have never really explored London….like a tourist. I have never seen:

The Crown Jewels

The Changing of the Guard

Madame Tussuad’s

The Tate Modern

I have never been to Highgate Cemetery

or taken a boat down the Thames

I have only ever seen one West End show (Philip Schofield in Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat 23 years ago!)

I really think I need a big old day out in London!

Smartsave is a website that provides great vouchers off for attractions and has a whole section on London. Somewhere I would love to see and have never seen is the London dungeon. Smartsave has a fabulous 20% voucher off visiting the dungeons and all you need to do is download it, how simple is that! I have also just spotted they have vouchers for 20% off the Harry Potter bus tour and 20% off voucher for Planet Hollywood and much much more .

Maybe I need a week there!

London is great, I went to the London eye with my teenage mother group when I was pregnant with Spud, my Dad took me and my younger brother to the wax works and the Sea Life aquarium when we was younger, was a great weekend away, we spent the next day visiting the free museums which my little brother loved to pieces due to the massive dinosaurs on display! xx
