Stop press . Unfortunately, following lower than expected ticket sales
and amidst undoubtedly a summer of much cultural competition, this year’s
Vintage Festival is sadly not able to operate as a stand-alone
event. Instead, a fitting alternative has been agreed with the
organisers of Wilderness Festival who have offered to host an intimate and
authentic incarnation of Vintage, as part of their own celebration within their
Cornbury Park site in Oxfordshire.
The winner will be offered this as an alternative prize. So sorry!

My favourite event at school sports days was the mothers’ race which they all claimed not to be interested in but secretly they all wanted to win.
I have also subscribed to your Newsletter as I would dearly love to win tickets to Vintage Festival 2012. I am bidding for a fantastic Tommy Nutter tweed suit on ebay and I want to show it off.
egg and spoon race, so much fun to watch.
Its got to be the egg and spoon race, especially whilst watching my eldest son when he was at pre school hold his egg all the way to the finish line with a look of pure concentration on his little face.
100 metres
I would love to win these! Sports day fvourite has to be the 3 leged race! Always ended up falling over and giggling like mad! Subscribing for a second chance!
The egg race has to be my favourite as it’s just plain funny!
Egg and spoon race – it’s funny.
Sack race. Always funny to see who’s try to cheat by running and not jumping. Unfortunately seems to be obsolete due to health and safety like so many other things….
my favourite race is the “under over” race, where a ball is passed down the line alternately under legs and over head!
The sack race was my favourite because of the different styles
)
people used… massive jumps, tiny jumps, baby steps and shuffles! The ones who started off at the front would often get carried away and crumble just before the finish line! (PS subscribing for a second chance
The sack race, for the simple reason that it provides maximum opportunity for the participants to break their noses. I like a bit of jeopardy in a sporting occasion!
I hate sports day!! If there was a race where you drank Pims that would be my fave but in leiu of that I will pick the sack race, I’d spend most of my time on my back! giggling
High jump into the kitty litter.
I’ve subscribed to your Newsletter too
Bean bag on the head! One of my favourite jokes ever about why Britain are never that good at Olympic sports…because we spend our youth seeing not who can run the fastest…but who can run the fastest with a bean bag on their head!! (Look out for it at a future Olympics near you)
x
My favourite at school was the bean bag race, collecting bean bags each slightly further away than the last. Don’t know if it still exists as a race these days!
The 3 legged race! I ALWAYS fell over!!!
Egg and spoon race !
egg and spoon race lol
Definitely the egg and spoon race, was always the most fun
for me it would have to be the sack race!
Beanbag on the head race…my hair gives me an unfair advantage!
My favourite was the three legged race! Always funny ,and you could never predict the winners!
Egg & spoon race is the best
The sack race for no other reason than I turned out to be very good at it and always seemed to win.
I passed on this talent to my eldest son who was/is brilliant at the sack race. Just a pity it’s not an Olympic sport as I am sure he could have brought home a gold.
Have subscribed to your newsletter
My Fave is the three legged race – dragging your poor friend up the field as fast as you can even when they have fallen over …. Booooo to the schools that have banned it!!!!
Subscribed to your newsletter xxxx
Egg and spoon. I am slow but low to the ground, and use this to my advantage. I regularly embarrass the kids.
The three legged race – always a challenge!
Sack race! Got to keep bouncing…..
Subscribed too – would love to go and learn lots of crafty skills x
My family are VERY fond of reminding me of my very first school sports day, during which there was a most excellent race that involved three stops to put together a dressing up outfit so one stop had a pile of dresses to choose from, the second had a pile of old handbags and the third, oh glorious day, had a pile of excellent old hats. I can’t resist a really good old hat.
Being quite a fast runner (what happened?), I reached the final hat stop first and after deliberating between two hats — a bright pink turban style affair and an oversized pale blue net one with pink flowers attached to the brim –, I opted for the former and went on my way. All would have been well but I was apparently struck by Hat Remorse and turned and went back for the other hat, only to see that another girl had picked it up. Being only six, I thought nothing of snatching it from her head then punching her when she tried to get it back and, well, I am sad to say that a fight broke out.
Victory was mine in a way – I mean, I came last in the race but I crossed the finishing line with THE hat on my head. And a bloody nose.
This ruthless approach to both haberdashery and sartorial affairs has since served me well in several sales over the years.
I’ve no idea what this race is called – the dressing up race perhaps? It’s definitely my favourite though!
Fabulous!
It has to be the three-legged race, we are always last but have such good fun as a family!
Has to be the mums race watching all them ladies always saying “im not bothered who wins” YER RIGHT!
Sack Race
I loved the obstacle course – I was rubbish at pretty much all sports, but due to my v short stature, was pretty good at getting through the camouflage nets. Hated the sack race – always came last – the smell of hessian still upsets me.
Egg and spoon race for me too!
has to be the skipping race someone allways got tangled up and fell over
Tug of Ward is always fun
1500 metres
Sack Race
I have always been completely rubbish at sports, I even ran towards my own goal when we played football which everyone shouting at me to go the other way.
In secondary school I signed myself up for the 800 meter race, in front of the whole school at our local race track, I sprinted the first lap, blow out all steam and ended up last.
In middle school on the sprint I was certain I came 3rd, but they gave it to someone else (which meant I was 4th and didn’t get a sticker) I was indeed furious
I am scarred for life so unfortunately I will have to say none. Although my nearly 3 year old has a little rubber egg and practices the egg and spoon race after she saw it on ‘The hive’ show, so we will go for that!
x
Probably the potato race, although they did change the potatoes for bean bags by the time I left Junior School. And I agree with Nicky Sian, the mention of the sack race brings the smell of hessian straight back into my nostrils!
The three legged race so funny
Vintage race for Vintage festival – it has to be the Egg and Spoon race!
Had to be the egg and spoon race, always fun seeing the interesting ways people would try and sneak chewing gum on to their spoon
egg and spoon race! So fun!!
