We have just had some absolutely gorgeous tiles laid in our bathroom and it has completely lightened and brightened and transformed the room. I cannot begin to tell you how delighted I am with it. It seem to ass a really fresh, rich quality to the floor that the grubby old lino we had down before just didn’t . In fact it had quite the opposite effect.
Seeing a room transformed like this got me thinking about flooring and how if you can only afford one change in a room then changing flooring can be one of the best ways to make a big impact.
Our bedroom is currently floor boards with a painted border. yes, it does look as bad as it sounds . Sometimes I wonder about having it carpeted, warm and soft underfoot and less likely to get dusty perhaps? But then I do like floorboards I think they add a rustic charm.
Taking a look around UK floor sanding sites I see that restorations can be amazing. I have attempted to sand stairs before with a hired sander and it was a disaster Hours and hours of effort and a poor effect but these floors look amazing, really smooth and polished.
Now this effect would look amazing in our bedroom
Perhaps just a simple small rug where I would get out of bed in the morning and it would be prefect,
Long term I would like the wood in our hall restoring too as it’s cracked and uneven and smoothing and polishing would really change it.
Without realising it we do look at floors a lot . I hate my kitchen floor to be dirty or the hall to be dusty,. Often it’s the last thing we tackle in a makeover but actually maybe its the one big change we should prioritise. After all, where would be without it!
