Home Makeover on a Budget: The Kitchen Part 1

Now this time I am very embarrassed.

My poor kitchen – we used you so much and have cared for you so little.

I work in the corner of our kitchen at a tiny desk facing a wall. On it above it below it and beside it are books, bits of paper, items to be reviewed, clothes needing to be put on ebay, tape measures, pens, money , cold coffee cups and more! Oh dear.

On the old scratched table with a few broken chairs around it are letters from school, a spoon, a couple of beakers and a dice. On the counters are a slightly rusty looking stainless steel bread bin, and an old tea, coffee and sugar pot and the boiler area is terrible.

Lots of unused and unnecessary appliances stand around the counters just getting dusty.

There are handprints on the wall, little grubby marks all over the place.

bad kit

We have a cat flap (sadly no longer needed) that is held shut with masking tape.

This is a very unkempt and uncared for room indeed.

I think you would be terribly shocked to see inside one of my cupboards.

I’ve warned you…….

You are shocked aren’t you? Well they are ALL like this in the kitchen!

My  excuses are  lack of time, a general tendency from all of us to keep too much stuff and not make decision, lack of storage, and general over working!

None of which are good enough I know.

It tales me ages to find things and to clean things and I know by now the more streamlined and tidy things are the easier my life is and the more time I have to keep things this way.

The lovely people at Wilkinsons are supporting this room makeover – we are really going to have our work cut out with this one.

Good luck! We’re doing ours and the upheaval is hell. However a good clear out resulting in several gumtree and eBay sales have paid for the majority of it. Roped on all the family too for the labour, saved us a fortune! Look forward to seeing the results.

Good luck on the makeover. We are in the process of many projects and I know how overwhelming it can get.

Popping in from Oh, Mrs. Tucker!

I too think it’s not as bad as you think, and many of us have cupboards like that! Can’t wait to see the transformation!!
