How to afford Disneyland on a budget

Oh my goodness how to afford Disneyland – my kids have wanted to go forver!

Ever since they heard about it they have badgered me to go and time and again I have told them it is out of our budget and we just cannot afford it. Part of me always has a little dream that one day maybe we would actually go.

They are 11 and 8 now and I feel if we don’t go this year or next we will have missed the boat. It’s not one of life’s essentials I know that ..but everyone who I know who has gone had had an amazing time and I would love to make it happen.

This is how to afford Disneyland on a budget

So the big question is how do we afford it? We don’t’ have much spare money but I do have a plan in mind.

Start a proper Disney saving fund and put spare money away each month
Do some research on the different accommodation available and cheapest time of year to fly
Get some good tips! I have just read this article about a budget holiday in Orlando it is packed full of great money saving tips like where to find free attractions, cheap food and free buses. This kind of advice is so helpful and it’s such a useful article!
Maybe have no holidays this year in order to have the BIG one next year?

We always do Disney on the cheap – have a look at so of the budget airlines. Although we live in the Midlands, it saves us lots of money to fly with Norwegian on their Dreamliner from Gatwick. Next year we are going in the February half term and have managed to get return flights for £382 each. I only take one large suitcase for the 4 of us and ensure there are washing facilities at the hotel – I know no one wants to do laundry whilst on holiday but this saves us around £150 because we don’t need to pay for extra luggage. Next I book my accommodation through booking .com as usually you don’t need to pay for your accommodation until you get to Orlando which gives you longer to save the money. I look for a hotel close to the I.4. as I know this is fairly central and close to Disney. I also ensure buffet breakfast is included which means we can really fill up and this usually gets us through until around 4pm and then we only need to purchase one meal whilst we are out. I take empty water bottles with us to the parks and fill them up at the water fountains scattered around the parks, I have also been known to take a flask of coffee! I also book a hotel which has a free shuttle bus to the Disney parks – this is less hassle, no parking fees (which are extortionate) and usually means less walking as they drop off close to the entrance to the parks. I purchase our Disney tickets in advance from Florida escapes as this is the cheapest way to get them. I also take my Decent camera with me – when the professional photographers around the park group us together for the classic Disney shots, I also give them my camera – that way we get professional Disney photos which are free. Another thing which saves us loads of money is that I tell my children that the treat is the holiday and not trinkets from the gift shops. Each are given $30 for the holiday and its up to them to spend it wisely on Disney merchandise. Disney is never going to be a really cheap holiday but there are ways to save money and you can still have a fantastic holiday.

This is a perfectly times post for me, Becky. We are planning on going to the USA in 2018 for our 20th wedding anniversary…but we are taking the kids with us(!) and are planning to go to New York (destination of our 10 year anniversary) and then go down the west coast and go to Disney in California. This will not be cheap so we are hoping to try and book well in advance AND get a saving fund going but these tips are also really useful, thanks.
