My thrifty resolutions for 2014

Almost everyone makes vague thrifty resolutions. I am no exception. This year I have tried to be a little more specific in the hope this makes them more achievable.

Do you like this gorgeous wartime postcard?

It was part of a set I received for Christmas We Can Do It! 30 Inspirational Postcards for Hard Times they are so inspiring (and a little old fashioned!) I will show you more over the coming weeks.

make do and mend, thrifty resolutions

This year I want to perfect the art of making do with what I have without always striving for more, better, newer, trendier, faster, or higher tech.  Just think of the physical, mental and energetic space this would bring me.

I want to learn to cook well with whatever we have, make the best of the clothes I have, use the toys and games we have in new inventive ways. making do without losing any quality.

I want to have great night in with friends, and great days out with family that are cheap but so cheerful. I want ot encourage my children against the mass consumer culture in which they are growing up.

This year I want to learn to mend; to mend clothes, books, toys and even our home. We want to be greener too abd stop contributing so much to ‘waste’ reusing  more and passing things on rather than throwing away.

I’d finally like to learn to sew and make simple gifts.

A creative life..living well on less. Making do and mending practically and emotionally.

Great resolutions that are well achievable. Haven’t done mine yet but I’m definitely going down the route of handmade pressies too – this house is bulging at the seams with crafty/sewing stuff. HNY! X

Good ideas. Too much of our stuff these days is basically disposable. Consumer products need to be made so that they can be mended or should be completely disposable
