There are many ways to promote your blog. I have been blogging for a number of years so have tried a fair few! I thought you might like to hear a few of my top tips and I would LOVE to hear yours too!
1. Word of Mouth
Good old fashioned word of mouth can never be underestimated. By verbally telling people I come across that I blog and what I blog about I have had many doors open for me. I have had opportunities to review a lovely local gym and a spa, I have talked at local business conferences and I have been able to lend my voice (and blog) to local charities and causes. By telling people verbally that I blog I have made connections with other local bloggers who have been a huge source of support to me and are now great friends too.
2. Email
By the power of email I have connected with brands products and events that I am interested in collaborating with and this has enabled me to share my blog information and pitch ideas for working together. Sometimes this has worked out really well and sometimes it has me nowhere but a little speculative email is minimal effort for potentially wonderful results. Putting your blog address after your signature really helps too
3. Social media
Well I know it has its faults (it can distract you, consume you, waylay you, make you compare yourself with others and so on BUT what an absolutely brilliant way to shout about your blog. Every blog post i write I share to google +, facebook, pinterest and twitter and it’s a great way to give my blog more exposure. Oh and you tube of course (haven’t quite mastered this one yet!)
4. Business cards
Business cards are very handy. It’s all very well TELLING people who you are and how to find you but if you can pass over all your details on your business card they will have a permanent record. You can make them really visually appealing to by uploading your own logo or a fabulous relevant photo or graphic. Take a look at onlineprinters.co.uk for great value cards you can design yourself.
5. Attending blogging conferences
Blogging conferences are a great way to meet other bloggers and make some great contacts. One of the very best ways of shouting about your own blog is to team up with other bloggers and work cooperatively. They are also a fabulous resource for content sharing and promoting.
6. Linkys
Linkys are a great place to share your blog content. My favourites are Mammasaurus’s How Does your Garden Grow and the Home Corner Linky at Hibs100. These allow you to find an audience who love your niche and connect with many new viewers.
7. Join blog communities
Netmums, Mumsnet and Britmums are all fab communities to be part of and to share your blog on in the UK leading to a wider audience of parents. Each niche will have similar just get scouting!
8. Join a blogging index
Foodies100, Tots100, Hibs100 are all indexes of blogs ranked according to popularity across many different variables. These lists are accessed by many PR s and perused by many other bloggers. It can be very beneficial to be included.
9. Aim High
You could also pitch your blog to magazines, newspapers and relevant magazine websites to increase exposure and stature of your blog Parentdish is a great place to get your blog post featured.
10. Be a quality blogger
Write great blog posts. At the end of the day this is the way to get noticed, to increase your audience and to attract opportunities.
Good luck and please , please tell me your blog name in the comments below and any great tips you have for increasing your blog exposure.
Point No.10 is the most important. Some people write utter garbage, and many people write superficial trivia. Lots of people use poor grammar, spelling and style. You know immediately when you come across a quality blog!
I also find that many alleged bloggers treat their blogs just like a static website, and don’t write often enough to keep their blogs fresh and dynamic.
Great post I’ve pinned it x
Great advice, I really need to put more effort into some of these categories
Very useful tips, perfect for all bloggers. I need to focus more on Pinterest this year. that is my goal
Some really great tips! Pinning this 🙂
Well clearly you’re doing something right! x
Top tips Becky. 🙂 Off to pin. xx
I think writing with a sense of having an audience and what is useful and interesting for them, so reading other blogs is important there!
Great tips and they’re clearly working for you x x
Thanks for the mention Becky! No. 10 is key – getting people to your blog is half the battle, it’s making sure your content makes them want to come back that’s the bugger!
This is a really informative post. I love to read a well written and sometimes humorous blog. I particularly like ones with loads of fresh ideas.
