After much deliberation and a huge number of family meetings, you’ve decided it’s time to welcome a new baby into the fold. However, this time that baby is going to be covered in fur and although that baby will walk on four legs instead of two, it is a new addition to the family nonetheless. Perhaps that’s the most important thing you need to know when welcoming a new fur baby into the family – the fact that your new canine baby is going to be every bit a part of your family as every human is. They aren’t called fur babies for nothing! So then, here is some of what you need to know to welcome your pet into your home.
Love Is the Greatest Thing You Can Provide Your Pet
If there is one thing a dog will respond to, any dog at all of any breed, it would be love. A dog can sense love, and some will walk hundreds of miles to get back to their owners. That’s loyalty beyond compare, beyond even what you can expect from most members of your human family, and the reason for that is love. Dogs give love unconditionally and you should respond in kind. If you are unable to give that fur baby the love it needs to thrive, perhaps a goldfish would be a better pet!
Great Veterinary Care
Just as you would take your children to the doctor regularly for examinations, vaccinations, and healthcare if they appear to be ill, so too should you provide great veterinary care for your new fur baby. In fact, it is recommended that you consider choosing a vet even before you bring your new family member home and ensure that you have looked through health insurance options for your pet to help cover costs. Always investigate exactly what kind of cover you will be getting and choose the most inclusive cover of all. You can find providers that offer different perks and packages. If you choose to introduce more than one furry friend to your family, you could always opt for everypaw.com who provide multi-pet discounts if you choose to insure more than one pet. This might be the ideal fit, and there are also a range of other new options available for new arrivals. Every baby deserves health cover, don’t they? Why should a fur baby be any different?
Structure Is a Critical Component of Puppy Development
Although that furry little bundle of joy is just the cutest thing you’ve ever laid eyes on, remember that your new family member will need just as much structure as a human child. This means training them early on about where it’s okay to potty and what toys they are allowed to chew and those which are definitely forbidden. Daddy’s new slippers, for example, may look and smell like their rawhide chew toys, but they are anything but! Whether it’s getting your fur baby on a regular eating/sleeping/exercise schedule or teaching them the house rules, you should set up a rewards programme just like you would for primary school children.
You’ve chosen to bring home a family pet, a new member of the household, and although they are ‘just a dog’ to most people, you know differently! If you simply adopt the childrearing strategies used by parents to those acceptable for canine kids, you will do well. Just remember to give your pet lots of love, even when scolding them for chewing daddy’s leather gloves. Love is the greatest teacher of all and if you don’t believe it, watch how your fur baby thrives when given all the love you have to give. It’s amazing really. See for yourself!

One thing I did for my fur baby was get him some pet health insurance. I’m usually pretty tight on money so if something were to arise, I probably wouldn’t be able to take him to the vet. Instead of worrying about that, I pay like 30 bucks a month, get free vet visits, one free dental cleaning, and a discount on procedures and prescriptions. It’s definitely worth it.
I got my three dogs pet insurance too. That is great advice.
Furry little bundle of joy – what exact description!
I had a big dog when I lived in the house. Now there is little space in the apartment and I think of a little dog, my children too.
Choose a vet that opens his clinic a minimum of one night per week or on Saturdays if you happen to work throughout the day.
Distance out of your place to your vet is vital right here. Most household pets are likely to get distressed once they journey too far and the journey is simply too lengthy.
