The weirdest thing that ever happened in my house

What is the weirdest thing that ever happened to you?
This video from former British gas apprentice Sarah really made me laugh (and squirm a bit too) She is telling the story of the weirdest thing she ever saw whilst out on a visit, take look it is very odd!

I think I would have fled …all those eyes looking at me!

Sarah however was a farmers daughter before she became a technical engineer with British gas so is far hardier than me (and more used to lots of animals!)  You can read about her story and her apprenticeship here

It made me think about the weirdest thing that I have ever seen in  a house and I have to say I was a social worker for a long time..I saw quite a lot of odd things but none  of which I can talk about!

In my own home however the oddest thing happened when i was pregnant with my first child. My lovely cat Zeke, who had never shown any interest in hunting, suddenly started chasing after birds and mice and on odd occasions was bringing them in for me (ick.)

So unwelcome!

One day Zeke must have found a frog and very gently bought it indoors. As I climbed the stairs both my cat and this little frog sat totally still across the top step just staring at me. I absolutely screamed the house down. Frogs completely terrify me and this one was just STARING. I had to get upstairs as I needed to wee (pregnancy hazard) and I was alone in the house. Neither cat nor frog even flinched as I neared them and I had to climb over them. I was absolutely petrified.

Both had disappeared when I eventually and nervously came out of the bathroom, but the staring froggy face is imprinted in my memory forever.

Oh Zeke must have known how things were about to change and wanted to bring you lovely gifts! Strangest thing happening in our house, was a cat jumping on the bed in the middle of the night – when we didn’t own any! Frighten the living daylights out of me, but it had wiggled the lock on the catflap and found it’s way in and wanted a soft bed for the night!

I have a similar story though not at home. I used to teach a group of young people that had been excluded from main stream education. I was marking some files one day and one of the girls asked for some coloured paper from the copier room. I nipped out and collected the paper, sat down to resume the marking and there on the book was a dead mouse. ………. one of the girls thought it would be funny and it wasn’t meant maliciously. The class cracked up laughing until i started to scream and shake. I am phobic about dead things and the poor girls got the shock of their lives as I had to be taken home by other members of staff. The poor girl was terrified to come back to class. When she was brought back to class a week later I had to talk to her through the toilet door where she had locked herself. I explained to her about my phobia and eventually managed to convince her that she wasn’t in trouble. Funnily enough those girls had so much more respect and were touchingly kind after that. I had so much fun teaching those girls and could fill a book with stories
