There’s nothing quite like your own bed

It is a hushed secret that bedding can actually save you money; certainly, we can all find better and more appealing bargains over the internet, but did you know that if you choose your duvets, mattress toppers and blankets accordingly, you could actually save money on your bills?

In a recent report it was found that gas prices between the winters of 2009 and 2010 rose by £60. Although that may seem a relatively small margin to some, for those of us who are trying to keep the pennies in our pockets, it makes a huge difference.

A long forgotten tool that has been used to heat beds for generations is the electric heat blanket. Although the popularity of heat blankets have long since waned they have started to make a revolutionary comeback in beds all across the United Kingdom. Although some may remember them as being a mass entanglement of wires and rough material, thanks to innovative design, they are now the elegant pleasures of what could have been. Considered luxury items in the grandest of houses, heat blankets are now comfortable, sensuous and welcoming materials for your bed. With the simple flick of a switch you can find yourself within an oasis of warmth which means you can afford to turn down the radiators in your room or even the thermostat which controls the whole house. Nowadays electric blankets are simple to use and come with a range of features including timers and differential heat settings. Once you have one, you’ll be wondering how you ever went to bed without it.

Even though electric heat blankets are fantastic pieces of equipment for you bed, there are other ways to ensure you are using your top quality bedding in the most economical way possible.

Where a lot of people go wrong, especially in places that receive the harshest of winters, is that they tend to have different types of bedding for different seasons. Although it is permissible and actually a very nice thing to change in the coming seasons, it also means that too much money is being spent on too much bedding.

Thanks to companies such as Silentnight, you can now buy duvets and bedding sets that are designed to last throughout all seasons; both in the warmest of weather and indeed, the coldest. Thanks to hollow fibre material within the duvets, the material is light and fluffy which keeps a constant temperature within the duvet whilst keeping it aired and fresh throughout the night. The great news is that hollow fibre is also hypoallergenic, which means that the material is great for those who tend to suffer from allergic reactions and asthma.

Of course, within the market you can also find a vast range of luxury hypoallergenic bed sets, which are especially designed to combat not only allergies such as dust mites but also bacteria which is especially helpful to those who tend to suffer from asthma and eczema. Buying hypoallergenic bedding will not only cut down your medical bills but you will also rest assured that a good nights sleep is available without having to sneeze and wheeze your way through the night.

Do you know whether using an electric blanket can be bad for your health or is that just a myth? I currently use a good down duvet but I still get a little cold during winter. I`m hoping to buy a half sized e.blanket just for me so my husband won`t complain that it is too hot!

Totally agree, you cannot beat your own bed, I cannot sleep well in anyother place. I use an electric blanket almost all year round, nothing worse than cold bedding.
