Do you make a homemade, handmade Valentines gifts?
I suppose I have lived on a budget for so long it is second nature for me to think about handmade gifts now. When it comes to Valentines I nearly always do. Making my own gifts really can save me a small fortune, plus it saves me having to raid the joint accounts and having my hubby ask what I have been buying!
I like to surprise him.
This year I wanted to convey to him what he meant to me but I wanted to do it in a fun way. It’s so fun where inspiration comes from. A few weeks ago I bought some fridge magnet letters that looked like they had been cut from a newspaper. I adored them and decided to use the concept as a base for my gift.
I gatherd together all I would need …. newspapers, catalogues, PVA glue, red card, a thrifted glass jar and some scissors (I think my jar cost 50p!)
I started by finding and cutting out words that made me think of my OH, words like superhero and leading man ( I know how soppy !!) Then, I simply glued them onto randomly cut pieces of card. I didnt have exact sizes,it was all a bit rough and rustic as I think this adds to the appeal (and it is FAR less time consuming!)
For the top I just cut a piece of red card after drawing round the lid and stuck it on.
And that’s it…a very simple Love Jar, completely unique and created with love.
I am delighted with this little Love Jar and hopefully my OH will be too as he pulls out the little cards filled with words of love. I want him to know what he means to me. That is what I think Valentines is all about after all, not expensive gifts but simply conveying love.
What are your plans for Valentines day? have you been making gifts?
