There’s nothing more exciting than planning – and getting ready for – your next big family holiday in the sun. Destination-wise the options are endless. But choosing a spot that the whole family will enjoy, and that stays within a tight budget, can narrow the search down quite a lot.
Travelling with children doesn’t come with a cheap price tag, especially during the summer and winter holidays. So, I’ve done a little research and found three fantastic spots to visit that won’t break the bank, and are guaranteed to put a smile on everyone’s face.
Lanzarote
Lanzarote is known as the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’, and for a good reason, this Canary Island sees consistent warm weather with averages between 18 and 28°C all year long. But it’s not just the fantastic weather that makes this an excellent holiday spot for 2018; it’s also just over four hours away from the UK, meaning you can get there quickly and kids won’t get too bored on the flight.
When you reach Lanzarote you’ll be shocked with just the amount of family friendly activities around – it’s like this island was made especially for holiday-goers with kids. A holiday really isn’t complete without a little beach time, and if you’re looking to unwind on the sands Lanzarote has got you covered. Its three main beaches – Playa Blanca, Playa Dorada and Playa Flamingo – are all linked by a long promenade lined with shops and restaurants, and the beaches themselves are white and golden with clear water ideal for taking a dip in.
If you have any animal lovers in your family, take the kids to Guinate Tropical Park, where you can spot exotic birds, reptiles and fish or go to the Wild West themed Rancho Texas theme park with crocodiles, armadillos and birds of prey. All this being said, you can find some great holiday deals to Lanzarote, and it’s definitely one of the cheapest destinations in the Canary Islands.
Cyprus
Talking about perfect beach holidays, Cyprus outshines them all, with 59 Blue Flag beaches located all around this idyllic island. It’s got several family-friendly shores with Instagram-worthy sands and a wide range of watersports like windsurfing and jet-skiing. You can even swim around Aphrodite’s Rock, said to be the birthplace of the Greek goddess of love.
Have you got any history buffs in your family? Or any budding archaeologists? Cyprus is home to a mix of enchanting ruins from various conquering empires, including the Greeks, Romans and Ottomans. Your family can spend the day checking out the Tomb of Kings near Paphos, the castle in Limassol or the amphitheater at Kourion.
Cyprus is also home to numerous budget hotels and all-inclusive resorts. If you’re itching to make things simple, and who isn’t, First Choice’s Holiday Villages are available in Cyprus. These all-inclusive resorts have a ton of activities for kids to join in on, and a great range of restaurants and evening entertainment.
Costa del Sol
Spain has always been a budget friendly destination for us Brits, it’s only a short flight away and is flooded with glorious sunshine and gorgeous stretches of sand. Costa del Sol, on Spain’s south coast, literally means Coast of the Sun, and is no stranger to the family holiday world. It has more than 320 days of sunshine a year, 20 Blue Flag winning beaches and has a whole host of watersports available like snorkelling and scuba-diving.
Costa del Sol really is a kid’s paradise, with tons of fun-filled attractions all around the region, including the sizeable waterpark Aqualand, with kamikazes and one of the highest water slides in Europe. Costa del Sol also has theme parks, safari parks, go-karting, and beautiful nature reserves to explore. There are almost always cheap deals available across the diverse region of Costa del Sol, from the impressive city of Malaga to the traditional and charming Fuengirola. The only thing you’ll need to decide is what beach resort is calling your name.
Hopefully with these three budget-friendly recommendations, you’ll find your ideal family holiday for 2018.
