4 Reasons To Buy An Electric Bike

http://expedition-bikes.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Expedition-Bike-Side-On-Homepage.jpgElectric bikes have come a long way in the last ten years. Improved designs and technological advancements have led to sleeker models, hidden wiring and advanced electronics that allow the bike to maintain a traditional bicycle-like appearance.

So why switch to an electric bike? The benefits are numerous, ranging from cost saving to personal fitness. Here are our top four reasons to buy an electric bike:

1. Lowering your environmental impact

Our carbon footprint can sometimes seem like something we can’t change, especially in the western world. Our cars, trains, even buses are having a big impact on the environment. By switching to an electric bike you can reduce the damage you are doing.

While the power consumption of an electric bike isn’t zero, the recharge time on its battery is short and costs far less than fossil fuels. If you choose to cycle, you will be helping to lower your CO2 emissions and preserve the environment.

2. Save on travel costs (especially when commuting!)

Whether it’s the escalating prices of public transport, or car insurance and the price of repairs, we spend far too much money on travel costs. In comparison with other modes of transport, electric Bikes are a one off payment with minimal, cheaper repairs.

Each electric bike is fitted with a rechargeable battery about the size of a water bottle. The battery can be quickly charged overnight and won’t cost as much as fuel or a yearly travel pass. You won’t even need to pay to get a driver’s license! Simply strap on a helmet for safety and ride.

3. Pedal assist motors help you go further with less effort

One of the most notable advantages, for all riders of electric bikes, is the impact of the pedal assist motor. The extra help cycling, up hills or just over long distances, means that you won’t be as worn out when you arrive at your destination.

For commuters, this means that even a long morning commute of an hour won’t result in you arriving exhausted. The electric bike’s pedals will help each rotation to power you further, leaving you feeling healthy but comfortable.

An electric bike is also ideal for those who have recently had an injury, as they require less exertion.

4. Modern electric bikes have all the benefits of a mountain bike

Some people, especially those who struggle to ride traditional bicycles, find the outdated, chunky look of old electric bikes embarrassing. Thankfully, the designers of modern e bikes, such as Eco Expedition Electric Bikes have taken notice and styled theirs as a mountain bike.

Not only does it have the appearance of an traditional bike, it also has the same parts. This means you get all the off-road benefits of a mountain bike, while getting the pedal assistance of the electric motor.

Also, because it uses real mountain bike parts, repairs are cheap and accessible – available at your local bike repair shop.

It looks like there are a lot of advantages to having an electric bike. I enjoy riding my bike but I haven’t used it for commute, so I will have to look into it. I like the idea of saving on travel costs but I wonder what the costs would be like for repairs if the motor were to break down? Thanks for the helpful electric bike post.

Thanks for the cool info. I have a chronic illness that limits my ability to ride so I’ve got my eye on ebiking . I’ve seen a lot of feedback from people for whom electric bikes became a gateway to cycling in general.

I love the general idea of electric bikes. Though if I were asked to pick between an electric bike and a motorcycle I would obviously pick a motorcycle. And for the simple reason of “better the devil you know than the angel you don’t” But say, how easy is it to maintain an electric bike? Are there models for kids and are they safe?
