One of the finest episodes of The Simpsons ever written is a little story about dentistry. Shocked by the cost of braces for Lisa, Homer leads the power plant where he works on a general strike until Mr Burns agrees to give his workers a free dental plan.

The episode isn’t only fantastic because of the sheer number of jokes that land, although it packs plenty of gags into its lean 22-minute runtime, but because it adeptly illustrates the lengths a parent will go to in order to make sure their children receive the best life experience possible.

We can relate. We’re always on the hunt for the best quality services for our kids at an affordable price. They might not appreciate the lengths we’ve gone to now, but we hope they will when they get older.
