On Saturday along with a lovely group of bloggers my little family went for a day out at Conkers in Leicestershire to take part in some BushCraft activities.
We have been to Conkers before it is only 40 minutes from our house but we haven’t been for a while. I had forgotten just quite how fabulous it was.
Our first activity was map reading and finding letters to unscramble. I have to admit to being utterly hopeless, my son and hubby got sidetracked by an amazing assault course and my daughter rambled off with Cass’s family (from Frugal Family) leaving me and Cass to have a good old natter. Perfect!
Then more bush craft! We built a den (well to be honest my 8 year old daughter did most of it) and then we made a fire. The rangers helping us were just fabulous and there was plenty of wood around to get the job done.
So lovely to see the kids getting dirty and loving some survival skills too. Bear would have been proud.
After this we did the barefoot walk which was great fun, we walked (barefoot) through mud and clay and stones and shells and it was icky sticky and full of giggles. A sensory experience and a half!
Lovely activities and so nice to do something the whole family could be involved in.
Conkers is rather enormous and very beautiful.
It has a sweet little train to take you around it, a high and low ropes course, cycling, karting, a waterfront, an indoor enchanted forest and hands on science and nature are. Beautiful woodlands to explore and fabulous parks, there are ranger activities and bush craft and craft activities throughout the holidays too. Conkers offers family adventure days, outdoor pursuit days, super Saturday activity sessions and much more.
My kids loved it and want to go back next weekend!
It costs £33 for a family of four and is a really top day out. Do have a look at the website there is so much to see!
Stay play and explore is a lovely way to visit Conkers , stay nearby and experience a couple of other local attractions too. For just £129 a family of four can do all this and it makes a lovely weekend break in the heart of the National Forest

Highly recommended as a great value family day out.
