Five Fun and Affordable Family Activities

We’ve all been feeling the pinch lately, and many of us have given up on the idea of enjoying fun, family activities. Not only do we work hard, but there seems to be very few enjoyments left which don’t cost the earth. Many families choose the easy option and simply spend their free time watching TV. But this actually does more harm than good, as it means you don’t get to have fun and spend quality time together!  So here are some amazing, fun-filled family activities which you can enjoy without breaking the bank.

  1. Make Your Own Olympics Games

There’s nothing better for boosting your mood than by doing a bit of exercise, but sometimes encouraging other people to work out with you is easier said than done! So, to get the whole family moving, turn your day into a family Olympic games, with gold, silver and bronze medals to hand out to all the contestants.

You can include anything you like in your games, from hide and seek to racing on roller skates or taking penalties. Just keep it fun and everyone will have a great time.

  1. Nature Watching in the Park

Nature watching is another great way of getting your family outside for some much needed fresh air, with the added bonus that you’ll all learn a thing or two along the way. All you need is a guide book and a pair of binoculars, and you’ll soon be spotting birds, insects, plants, animals and trees like a pro.

For added fun, turn your nature watching adventure into a competition, with points given for each thing spotted along the way.

  1. Discover Special Offers

If you’re looking for something a little more special, such as a day out at a theme park or trip to a castle, there are always special offers to take advantage of. The internet is a good start, as places such as Groupon change their deals regularly. Alternatively, contact your intended destination to find out what deals they have on at the moment. Some places, such as Harewood House in Yorkshire, offer half price tickets when you arrive by public transport.

  1. Rainy Day Activities

Rainy day activities don’t actually have to take place when it’s raining, which is good news because they’re all super fun. Get your family involved in painting, baking, making music or performing a play. Not only are all of these activities great fun to take part in, but they also produce great results which can be enjoyed by everybody.

  1. Become Entrepreneurs

It’s never too early to teach kids the value of hard work, and if they have fun doing it then that’s even better! Set up a lemonade stand, wash your neighbour’s car, start a dog walking business or bake cakes and sell them to your friends and family. However you decide to encourage your kids to get started with their own business, just make sure you’re by their side. That way you get to eat all the leftover cake.
