Bathroom Design Tips on a Budget
Are you looking for bathroom design tips on a budget?Everyone loves a gorgeous bathroom and wishes their home could have one. We’ve all flipped through the home magazines that show bathrooms bursting with beautiful features and designs. Marble countertops, gleaming glass shower doors, tiled floors and unique wall patterns, are a few of the stylistic choices that make us take a second look.
Turning all of that into a reality can be extremely expensive, but what if there was a way to get the most bang for your buck and transform your bathroom for cheap? It’s absolutely possible. Designing your dream bathroom on a budget can seem like mission impossible, but with a few helpful tips you’ll be well on your way.
Walls and Floors
Changing the walls of any bathroom doesn’t have to be an overwhelming task and especially not an expensive one. It shouldn’t even take too long. There are a lot of budget-friendly and easy options to transform your walls. The first and easiest thing you can do is to simply repaint your walls. Believe it or not, you can even paint over tile.
Choose a color that coordinates with the rest of the room and have at it. If you’re looking for something a bit more exciting and stylish, you can use peel-and-stick wallpaper. Peel-and-stick wallpaper has become increasingly popular because it’s so easy to use and it’s much cheaper than calling someone else to do your updates. There are heaps of options to choose from with texture, pattern, and color and there are many water-resistant varieties. Another unique preference is peel-and-stick tile. Stick-on tiles work just like the peel-and-stick wallpaper and comes in just as much variety. You can use them to tile an entire wall, or use them as backsplash or accents near the sink.
Most bathroom floors are usually tiled and replacing them can cost a pretty penny. Exploring cheaper options such as repainting, using vinyl, or simply using area rugs can refresh the entire area. If you’ve got wooden floors in your bathroom, a quick and easy update on the paint job will do wonders.
Vinyl flooring is another fantastic option and is one of the cheapest flooring options available. Vinyl is incredibly varied these days and you can choose almost any look and feel you can imagine to meet your flooring needs. Lastly, you can consider throwing down a rug on certain areas of the bathroom floor. Obviously you want to stay away from completely carpeting the bathroom so make sure you don’t go overboard on this one. Choose a rug that will cover-up any older or seriously worn spots on the floor. Typically rugs can be placed near the sink area, shower area, and toilet, but you can also place a runner or aisle rug down the center of your bathroom for an uncomplicated look. Of course, choose rugs that aren’t too old-fashioned or fluffy, this can take away from the sleekness that a bathroom should have.
Countertops
Gone are the days of forever wishing you could have the look of expensive stone countertops. These days your dreams can be realized with cheaper countertop material options. One of the cheapest and easiest countertop design updates can be done with easy-to-install peel-and-stick vinyls. Yes, that’s right, there are vinyl varieties of granite, marble, stainless steel, and almost anything else you might want. Of course it’s not real stone or steel, but the water-resistant material very closely mimics their appearance.
If you’re looking for something a bit more traditional, you can choose to install laminate countertops. Typically these run at very low costs and come in a large assortment so you can stick with your desired look.
The most durable option for your countertop at a cheaper cost is simple ceramic tile. Basic ceramic tile isn’t that expensive and it’s easy to clean, but you may have to spend a little extra for installation if you don’t do it yourself.
Shower
The best and cheapest way to update an old shower is to install shower curtains. This is a lot less expensive than installing completely new and updated doors. A simple change of shower curtains can make you feel like you’ve reached a destination spa. The colors and designs are endless. If you love the glass look of your shower doors, don’t toss them just yet. Instead, you can replace and update the frame. Whether it’s the finish or material that you want to change, you can purchase a new frame that can fit around your original shower glass. Or, you can change the way your glass doors look by adding none other than peel-and-stick frosted vinyls. It’s as cheap as can be and make your bathroom look classic and clean.
Lighting
Lighting can really set the tone for a bathroom and there are some great ways to update the lights without breaking the bank. The easiest, quickest, and cheapest way to do this is to invest in a few candles. Choose candles that are big and chunky to grab attention away from any other bathroom flaws. Candles are not only a great way to add more light, but to bring an ambiance to the room. You don’t need hundreds to do that. If you don’t like playing with fire, then battery-operated candles are also a great choice. Nowadays there are battery-operated candles that are made of wax and give off scents.
If you’re looking to modernize your bathroom or give it an industrial feel, you can remove any fixtures or shades around light bulbs to have them fully exposed. That doesn’t cost anything. It’s a really easy way to bring out the light and highlight design with no financial effects.
Light dimmers are extremely functional and highly useful for a bathroom space. It doesn’t cost much and it can save you even more money in the long run if you buy one and install one main light in the bathroom. With one main light illuminating the entire space, you save money and can brighten or dim depending on the occasion.
Designing and updating your bathroom is totally doable and affordable if you approach your remodel creatively and explore cost-effective and modern options.
