Guest post- summer holiday dressing
There is something about the sunshine that puts us all in the socialising mood. So, with the arrival of summer, most of us receive at least an invitation or two to summer parties. We don’t all want to spend a fortune buying a new outfit every time so having a super versatile piece or two in your wardrobe is ideal and cuts out any ‘what shall I wear’ worries.
Summer holiday dressing
For a number of seasons now the maxi dress has been high on the fashion agenda and there are plenty of good reasons for this. This ankle length style is a flattering choice that can be dressed up or down to suit your mood or occasion. It’s a piece that you can throw on and feel feminine and just that little bit glamorous in an instant.
Which Maxi will suit me?
A maxi dress is a great look for any body type but curvier or plus size women might want to consider choosing a style that has some kind of detailing or feature in the centre to create a more flattering illusion. This might be as simple as choosing one with a V neck rather than a high necked type. Apple shapes could go for an empire line style as this nips in at the thinnest point of your mid-section and gently skims over your tum.
When it comes to colour there is every hue and print you can imagine available right now. If you plan to use your maxi as your staple summer party piece, then a neutral plain colour is your best bet. This can most easily be transformed with accessories and less likely that you friends will recognise the same piece at each party. Black is always good, but if you prefer something lighter for summer then think about khaki, marl grey, navy or lighter blue to provide a simple base.
Barbecue with friends – dress it down in style Maxis are a great relaxed look for barbecues. Pair yours with flat pumps or crisp plimsolls for a funky, dressed down look. Don’t bother with the heels as you’ll regret it as soon as you step out on the grass! As the sun goes down and things get a little chilly, slip on a denim jacket for a casual chic look. Dress up your maxi to achieve the party feel with a long pendant and stacks of sparkly bracelets.
Dress to the maxi for weddings
Of course, relaxed barbecues are not the only parties over summer. You may receive invites to weddings and your maxi dress can prove a really suitable outfit option. This time heels are a must to turn up the glamour. Weddings are a real opportunity to shine so your accessories are essential to delivering bold, noticeable colour. Choose heels, clutch and a hair accessory in your favourite colour to create a well-put-together look. To keep out any sign of the chill, take along a co-ordinating wrap or smarten things up even more with a blazer style jacket.
Some summer parties call for all-out sparkle. Your maxi again is the one for the job. Not only does this wonder of fashion mean you don’t have to spend ages worrying about fake tanning your legs or being sure they’re super smooth, but your maxi dress is also completely comfortable. You can enjoy yourself all day and all evening without starting to get that uncomfortable feeling.
To add the sparkle factor look for one of the amazing sequinned jackets or cardigans and see instant glamour. Glitzy sandals or metallic gladiator style sandals are a good choice for your feet. Of course for this kind of night out, jewellery is the way to go so dig out your favourite statement piece and shine.
