There are some important factors to consider when buying a used car.
I recently bought only my second ever used car and it took a bit or research I can tell you. Now I am the proud owner of a little white Nissan Micra with just 3000 miles on the clock. These are the main factors I took into account:
What do you actually want
Despite buying used I had strict criteria about what I wanted and I think this has to be everybody’s first consideration. I knew I wanted a car with very low mileage, that was economical, had 5 seat belts, was an automatic and was in pristine condition. I also knew I wanted a white car.
Having a tick list of what you want can really help you focus your search
How much can you comfortably afford
Money is such an important consideration. I was so tempted to buy a mini or a Fiat 500 but you know they were out my price range and the repayments would have been just too high. You need to be really clear about what you can afford.
Make sure the paper work is right
This is vitally important, You need to be sure the car is totally legit and all the paper work is in order. Ensure this has all been dealt with before any monies are exchanged. If the car comes with private registration, make sure that you follow the transfer process set by the DVLA.
Take some know how with you
My top tip would be that if your knowledge of cars is pretty non-existent then take along someone who does know what they are looking at and what they are talking about, or you might find you make a costly mistake.
So they are my top 4 car buying tips. Do you have any to add?
